182 Geographic Information Science (GISci) |
Course Description (GEO
182):
This course is
concerned with introducing students to the basic concepts of Geographic
Information Science (GISci) and its related technologies: Geographic
Information Systems (GIS); Remote Sensing (RM); Global Positions Systems
(GPS); cartography etc. Rudimentary GISci concepts (including spatial
terminology, raster versus vector data, topology, image analysis, principles
of cartography, datums, databases and spatial analysis) will be introduced
through various software programs (i.e., Intergraph, ArcGIS, ERDAS, MapInfo
etc.) Emphasis will be placed on the integration of various GIT and other
spatial tools (i.e., modeling) to analyze spatial relationships.
Prerequisite: GEO 181 or Chairman’s consent.
