Being a prerequisite of transparency principle which is a sine qua non for a well-functioning democracy, The Right to Information Act numbered 4982 regulating the right to access information has been enacted.
The enactment of the Turkish Right to Information Act 2003 which came into force on 24 April, 2004 has brought provisions regulating the right to access information according to the principles of equality, impartiality and openness.

Who may benefit?
Turkish Citizens and foreigners domiciled in Turkey (on the basis of the principle of reciprocity) in Turkey may benefit from The Right to Information Act. By the law, Turkish citizens may obtain information on the activities of all the public institutions and the professional organizations which qualify as public institutions.
Procedure of Application
Due process of right to Information Act, under Public Relations Department, Right to Information Unit has been formed. The unit shall provide every kind of information in compatible with the provisions to the pertinent person.
